It seems to me that this is because of two points. First the Catholic
church attributes Mary as being a human without sin, and secondly they
claim that Jesus is not a human, being one of the 'gods' in theological
terms makes them an alien in earth people terms.

Being (alegedly) one of the trinity means that he was only given human
_form_ when on earth and, like Hercules (and many other demigods), was
the result of cross-species interbreeding.

What I would be interested to know is what the peoples of 2000, 3000
and 4000 years ago had as a a concept of what they called their various
'gods'. It seems to me that the Egyptians had no problem rationalising
the god-like attributes and god-like powers of the Pharoahs with the
obvious humanness of them. Emperor Chin I was God to his people (and
presumably the devil to his neibours), as was Hirohito. Chin seems to
have been a bit obsessive about the so-called afterlife and had an army
made for him to use to invade 'the next world' when he arrived which he
regarded as being the next country and beyond the Himalayas.

It seems to me that the Jews with their Jehovah (and the Canaanites
with El, and the Hindus with their various lords) would have given
them a duality of being the 'lord' (as in Baron, warlord) yet known
that they were humans too. In fact it is only in very recent times that
european royalty gave up the reverenge and next-to-godliness that lords
have been granted over the millenia.
