Could it have something to do with the semicolons showing up in the DATA
DIVISION? I've never seen semicolons there before.

I've had them there - but not with that compiler. In olden dayze, I
used semi-colons instead of commas whenever possible because they
showed up better with impact printers (not confused with periods). But
either case, they were designed to look pretty, not to do anything.
