When I look at a list of status codes in my IBM Manual the second digit or character depends on the first character. The first character has one meaning and the second has a separate meaning, but it depends on the first letter. I would have to look at the acutal IBM REDBOOK or a manual and see how many codes start with Zero. I think only '00' starts with zero but I am at home right now and dont know off the top of my head. I always use '00'. Maybe if you read a lot of records that might speed it up. If you are opening a file you will not save much time, but if you are looking at a read it might save some time.
