It's not necessary any more.
If there are lessons which might be learned from such activities and such
activities alone... then in order to learn said lessons it would seem to
be necessary. Granted that programs using these arcane techniques might
never see the light of Prod... to know the techniques, however, might be a
very useful thing, indeed.
