I searched the forum and found lots of books to start but I was not
sure if they could help somebody from different background. I am a
C/C++ programmer and want to learn Cobol. My need is to use it for
DARS(http://www.dars.muohio.edu/). DARS needs a Cobol programmer to
assist with encoding and exceptions and I need to fulfill that role. I
am a complete newbie to Cobol but am working in C/C++ since 2-3 years.
Can anybody with a previous experience in a similar situation offer
some advice on how to proceed?
Thanks a lot.
You have the advantage of probably having already worked with structured data definitions. Much of COBOL's power is in the data division, which should be easier to learn coming from a C background, rather than, say, coming from Basic. I briefly looked over the DARS link and though I cannot recommend any books, perhaps I can give you some help. Please email me:
