I searched the forum and found lots of books to start but I was not
sure if they could help somebody from different background. I am a
C/C++ programmer and want to learn Cobol. My need is to use it for
DARS(http://www.dars.muohio.edu/). DARS needs a Cobol programmer to
assist with encoding and exceptions and I need to fulfill that role. I
am a complete newbie to Cobol but am working in C/C++ since 2-3 years.
Can anybody with a previous experience in a similar situation offer
some advice on how to proceed?
Thanks a lot.
A good introductory book is Thane Hubbell's "SAMS Teach Yourself COBOL in 24
Hours".
For IBM mainframe COBOL see: http://www.murach.com/books/mcb2/index.htm
Much of COBOL is highly portable but there are vendor differences, so tell
us what operating system environment and what COBOL compiler and version
your will be using.
