Hi All,
Thanks a lot for your suggestions and help.
The Mike Murach books will prepare you for a zSeries machine, but whether or
not it will take "a few weeks" is up to you and how fast you can learn. Are
they giving you access to a machine and a compiler so you can learn by doing
instead of just reading?
They expect me to practice on a Windows platform and getting a compiler
from somewhere. Machine access will be given after I can convince them
that I can do the task.
Have you accessed database using SQL during your c?c++ experience? If not
you may need a DB2 book. Mike Murach has one but it is kind of old and out
of date using DB2 v4.1, but it still has good examples of SQL used in
business applications. You can get the DB2 Programmers Guide off of the
internet for free. Craig Mullens DB2 book is often recommended, but i have
no personal experience with it.
I have accessed MySQL with C++. I am trying to learn DB2 as much as I
can. I will also try Craig Mullens book if it is recommended.
Any particular details I should be aware of which are quite different
from C/C++ in COBOL?
Thanks again for your time.
.
