spilling them to disk, demultiplexing, and applying binary gain, on a
machine with only 64K of core.
It was done with channel programming by a "veteran." He was paid (in today's
dollars) about $100/minute.
Some don't have the resources to devote to a piddly problem like a maverick
tape file issue.
