Thank you again for your response.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a Visual c++ 1.52. I have
been able to compile the program as a c program rather than c++. The
COBOL documentation says that Microsoft c 6 and 7 should work. I found
a MSC c 6.0 compiler. I'm getting a number of errors with the header
files. I assume I can work these out. Do you know of any inherent
problems with the C compilers that should prevent me from using them
for this task ?

I switched to a 16 bit Borland C++ compiler.
That will not work.
I repeat:
You need to use
Visual C/C++ 1.5 to create a 16 bit object and get a Windows 3.11
version of Winsock.
Do you know where I can get VC 1.5 ?
.
