Really?? Then ignore my previous post. Who wrote/sold the Cobol
compiler for the C64?

You're testing my memory here, but I think it was a company called
Abacus Software. They did a number of compilers for VIC, C64 & C128
in years gone by,

See:

An impressive list :-)

I never had a C64, opting for Amiga (with a bridgeboard so I could run PC
software) instead. I did rent a Commodore PET (during the first week when
they were released onto the market; never bought one, but had one on lease
for about 6 months) and wrote a program on it (in BASIC, of course... :-))
to enable my girlfriend to organise her London flat with new furniture and
fittings :-) Then there was the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, which brought us
colour (by attaching to your TV). I wrote a casino blackjack program for
that, which a friend assures me he still has and his kids play with it
occasionally. (It is loaded from a cassette).

The Amiga was an amazing machine. Had Commodore had decent management
I think the world would be using Amiga's today instead of PCs. They
(Commodore management) were so shortsighted.

Looking at the list above for the C64 is quite humbling. I wnder how many
modern commercial computers could offer such a list of supported languages?

Just shows what can be achieved with enthusiasm.

Pete
