They can express dissatisfaction with your code, but never with your
style...

A programmers is much like a dentist: scientifically trained, but also
creative.

And, like an artist living in a garret in Greenwich Village (or the Left
Bank), a programmer is extremely defensive about his "creations." Programs
that don't work, never worked, and cannot be made to work, are often
protected against all depradations no matter how valid the complaint.

In fact, the most acceptance I've ever seen in this regard was:

"Well, I, uh, don't think it's quite fair to condemn a whole program because
of a single slip-up, sir."
