Producing universes this way can be quite cost effective. The pay rate for
senior Sufi
mystics is $1.17 per hour (no benefits), which translates to a bill rate
of $80-100. Tata
estimates 50,000 billable mystic-hours per universe. "Before we organized
them, they
worked at it 1,500 years without producing squat," said team lead Gautam
Khomeini.
Meme mene tekel peres!
Divided kingdoms are tracked and handled as routine production support issues. If it can't
be resolved in four hours, it's automatically promoted to level 2 and an email is sent to
the mystic's manager.
A more serious issue (we don't have problems) is presented when kingdoms are Rent Asunder
by the jealous competition. In those cases, we convene a War Room into which 10-20 senior
mystics are locked with instructions not to come out until the kingdom is reunited. On a
typical day, there are one to two dozen War Rooms in progress. Some of our mystics say
crisis management makes them feel like the Good Old Days never ended. We have to rotate
the duty lest they relapse to obsolete habits in development.
