I was at a meeting with some Tourism people here and one of them referred
to the Bay of Plenty (I live in Tauranga, in the Western end of the Bay)
as "New Zealand's Florida".
I honestly don't know whether I should be pleased or saddened by that.
I've never been to Florida.
If a tourism person said it, it's a compliment. :) That video certainly
looked likes some spots I've seen in Florida, though I don't believe
Florida has a mountain like that one. I'd certainly like to see it in
person!
Well, I have a guest room that accomodates two people; you're very welcome.
It is booked up (I don't charge; these are friends from around the world...
:-)) for this year and next year over the Summer, although the one who's
supposed to be coming next year has been saying she'll come (from the U.K.)
for several years; I'll believe it when I see it. (Anyway, I could be in
Europe next December...) This year I have a girl from Germany coming out,
then a couple from Oz (Australia). I enjoy the company and it gives me a
chance to go revisit some of the attractions of living here.
LOL! Nice one, Daniel... :-)
And admit it - that was *you* jumping off that waterfall, wasn't it? (Oh
wait, I forgot - you haven't done waterfall in many, many years.)
Sadly, you are correct and my days of jumping into waterfalls (in every
sense of the word) are over.
There was a guy in the jet boat who looked a lot like me but it wasn't...
(even though I've done the jet boat run at Longridge a number of times -
never get tired of it... It is 12 KMs up the Waipuna river with 360 spins
and terrifying shallows and overhanging branches...very exciting. It ends up
in a lagoon at the foot of some rapids that are too steep to negotiate, in a
canyon with no road access and completely surrounded by native bush. Very
beautiful and serene after the mad helter-skelter ride to get there. You
just have time to collect your thoughts and listen to the birds, then the
whole mad race starts again... to go back :-)
Thanks for checking it out.
Pete.
