Yes, indeed it did. The Eocene Epoch is one such period.

And that is, of course, exactly my point: periodic warming and cooling -- to much greater extents than what has been observed in the last century -- is a normal cycle for the planet, that has been going on for much longer than human beings have been around.


I think that this is also the point. Going back to times when humans were not around is not that desirable to the rest of us humans.
