Incidentally, Ubuntu changed their indexing in their latest release.  It
wouldn't be that big of a deal, except that it pegs the processor, and
my laptop has heat issues...  :(


Laptop or Sinclair ZX-81? A friend (another boozy chum) runs his lap
top all day. It frequently auto-shuts down and reboots without warning
due to overheating. I placed it up on top of a catalogue with the fan
hanging over space and surprise - it worked without failing. If that
doesn't work for you then freeze an ice pack and place it above the
hottest spot on the machine.
