True. Assuming God did create the universe in 6 days, which is more
logical?
A. God created everything without the "implied prehistory" you suggest,
and Adam couldn't see a single star for 4 years, etc.
B. God created everything with an "implied prehistory", with everything
already in balance "as if" it had been there. There would be chickens,
eggs, and everything in between. Trees would have rings. Adam could see
all stars bright enough to be visible.
To my mind, assumption A is illogical, and criticizing the Creation
account on that basis is asinine. :-)
But B implies that God is trying to fool us. Which fits better with
the way lots of Christians believe - those who don't think their way
will be punished as part of a grand plan.
Duh! God *told* us what He did in the Bible. No "fooling" there.
A better alternative is to ask what is important to learn from the
scriptures. Where should one's efforts be best used - to prove
ourselves Right? Or to follow Jesus' example?
What is important to learn from the Scriptures is what the Scriptures
actually say. The reason Jesus came into the world was to die in
payment for our sins (1 Timothy 1:15), not to be an example. Jesus
lived a perfect life *because* He did everything *right*. He followed
perfectly every principle and law of God, the Father. There is no
"follow Jesus example" apart from "being right"; that's an oxymoron.
Even so, no one is saved by their actions. Everyone has "fallen short"
of what God demands (Romans 3:21-23), and nobody is acceptable to God
except through faith in Jesus (Acts 4:10-12). Jesus is the only Man
Who ever lived a life acceptable to God, and no other human will ever
see heaven, apart from accepting God's grace through believing in the
atoning work of Jesus Christ. Our work is to accept God's plan of
salvation (John 6:29). We obey God to please Him *because* of what He
has done for us, and also because of Who He is.
