This isn't a criticism of you, Pete, so much as a plaint that the Bible
simply doesn't get read, by anybody, really. A f'rinstance: it's clearly
stated in the flood story that the waters prevailed upwards 15 cubits over
the face of the earth, and that the mountains were covered. Yet that 15
cubits was enough to submerge Mt. Ararat (although the story says "mountains
of Ararat"), 17000+ feet. There are two possibilities: either all the
mountains were lower than 15 cubits; or: somebody measured, somehow, that at
the peak of the tallest mountain available there were 15 cubits of water
above it. Both are ridiculous. The only possibility is that something has
been lost saince the story was first compiled, or spoken, or whatever.
That knowledge came through divine revelation, of course, just as Moses
knew about Creation and other early events. God has always told His
people things from time to time that they had no other way of knowing.
Most serious Christians I know have been given revelations from time
to time. For a Christian, communication with God is supposed to be a
two-way street (John 14:26), and it is for any true believer in Christ.
Some translations of Psalm 104 (e.g. Psalm 104:8 NASV) imply that the
mountains may have been lower before the flood, or perhaps the mountain
and continents were lowered and the sea floor raised during the flood,
and then the mountains raised and the seafloors lowered after the flood.
If this is the case, it certainly could explain why we find such huge
biomass deposits that turned into coal and oil. Imagine the enormous
waves of ocean water, perhaps kilometers high, that would pour in over
the continents. They would sweep away everything in their path, washing
billions of tons of biomass against the sides of mountain ranges,
covering them with silt, dirt, rocks and everything else. With such
extreme and rapid tectonic activity, there would surely be lots of
volcanism as well. The intense heat from volcanism and compression, and
the pressure from the water, could form enormous coal and oil deposits
very quickly. The blood and other liquids squeezed from the crushed
animal mass could have collected and risen to the top to form salt domes.
