Some translations of Psalm 104 (e.g. Psalm 104:8 NASV) imply that the
mountains may have been lower before the flood, or perhaps the mountain
and continents were lowered and the sea floor raised during the flood,
and then the mountains raised and the seafloors lowered after the flood.
If this is the case, it certainly could explain why we find such huge
biomass deposits that turned into coal and oil. Imagine the enormous
waves of ocean water, perhaps kilometers high, that would pour in over
the continents. They would sweep away everything in their path, washing
billions of tons of biomass against the sides of mountain ranges,
So again you opt for a far-fetched fallacious option.
Also the inconvenient fact that certain landmarks that persist to this day
are mentioned in genesis. In spite of all of the above, these survived.
There is no way to know if antediluvian landmarks were actually the same
landmarks that may be named the same now. After all, 8 people aren't
going to know and remember widespread geographic features, even those
not drastically changed during the flood. Especially in a day when most
people rarely travelled far from home. Current Mt. Ararat is in Eastern
Turkey and Russia, which is a very long journey on foot from modern
Iraq, where Noah was thought to live before the flood.. We don't even
know for sure if it is the same Mt. Ararat in genesis. Locations farther
away may not have even been visited until several generations later, with
only passed down verbal accounts of the original location. For a
postdiluvian name and locale to match the same antediluvian name and
locale would be a long shot, unless God told them.
I live in Birmingham, Alabama, but it was named for Birmingham, England.
Many location names in the US are old American Indian names, but they
do not necessarily coincide with the same old Indian location, or even
any Indian location.
Not all of the world would have been exposed to identical conditions, or
for the same duration. Centers of continents, for example, would probably
not have been eroded as much as areas near the coast. Also, God may
have mitigated the more violent effects near Noah's arc, to protect it.
