What I'd like to know is exactly HOW you can establish yourself as a
Geek,
Use the shoe test: Loafers = Geek.

Sorry Michael, this needs "translation". I'm not sure what "Loafers" are. Is
this a brand of shoe?
I haven't worn shoes (any kind...) regularly for the last two years and I'm
not looking forward to getting back into corporate life and wearing a suit
and shoes again.
In the house I wear slippers and in the day (outside the house or at the
beach) I wear Jandals (thongs...flip-flops). If I'm going out to dinner
(depending where it is; at friends' places I wear slippers...:-)), I wear
light casual shoes, usually slip-ons (no laces).
As a result, my feet are in excellent condition, no corns, or aches or
pains. :-)
Around April I'll probably be resuming corporate duties and I'll be looking
for smart and comfortable formal shoes at that time. Oddly enough, I often
buy shoes in the United States because I believe the quality is better and
the selection is wider. However that is changing with many cheap Asian
imported shoes flooding the New Zealand market.
Pete.
