Sorry Michael, this needs "translation". I'm not sure what "Loafers"
are. Is this a brand of shoe?
I haven't worn shoes (any kind...) regularly for the last two years
and I'm not looking forward to getting back into corporate life and
wearing a suit and shoes again.
In the house I wear slippers and in the day (outside the house or at
the beach) I wear Jandals (thongs...flip-flops). If I'm going out to
dinner (depending where it is; at friends' places I wear
slippers...:-)), I wear light casual shoes, usually slip-ons (no
laces).
As a result, my feet are in excellent condition, no corns, or aches or
pains. :-)
Around April I'll probably be resuming corporate duties and I'll be
looking for smart and comfortable formal shoes at that time. Oddly
enough, I often buy shoes in the United States because I believe the
quality is better and the selection is wider. However that is
changing with many cheap Asian imported shoes flooding the New
Zealand market.
There are no shoe manufacturers in the United States to speak of.

Shoes sold here come from Sri Lanka or Bangladesh. The president's "No Child
Left Behind" initative has expanded to destitute countries. We can now pay
children one dollar a week to make shoes.
Lest some are outraged by this, look at the good it does. Americans can look
good.
