Sorry to hear he turned into another Bob Crane. Maybe Paul Schrader will
make a moralistic
film about Hooker, like Autofocus. Blues Boy Willie could play the lead.
How did blues great John Lee Hooker turn into murdered, probably gay,
TV star Bob Crane?
Crane was a sex addict. Hooker in his 80s keeping pimped out cars 'for the
ladies' sounds
like another.
Crane wasn't gay. You're thinking of his friend and running mate,
Carpenter.
Carpenter wasn't gay, he was bi-sexual. He was also the prime suspect in
Crane's murder and was eventually charged with it about 14 years after the
event. He was acquitted because the evidence wasn't strong enough. Blood of
Crane's type was found in his car, but they didn't have DNA testing then. He
had motive and opportunity, but, in my opinion, the jury were right to
acquit him on the evidence (whether he did it or not).
The whole thing was a very sad story (not just the murder; Crane's sex
addiction, and the way it destroyed his life....me, I've learned to live
with mine :-)), and I can't watch a re-run of Hogan's Heroes without
thinking about it.
Pete.
