I try not to, Mr Wagner, but there have been more than a few times when a
pimp has stated 'Your papers don't go out the door until I speak to your
references.'
What I usually do is supply names from positions a few years old; if the
pimps call they get a response along the lines of 'Mistah Kurz? He
dead!'... and I've been surprised by how a good recommendation from a dead
reference is sufficient to allow a pimp to submit my papers.
