I don't wish to extol the merits each of the deployment platforms. There
are many good arguments for Linux/Java and yes Bill Gates has plenty of
money already.
My choice of .Net is a selfish one. I think Visual Studio 2008 is the
greatest thing since punched cards replaced paper tape. I don't want to
develop without it. (Or deal with clients who don't want to use it) And its
an extensible platform where MyMigrator can snap in.
MyMigrator's currently spits out C#, and for a few functions, VB. But it is
designed so that you can add other emitters like VB and Java. Again, I have
no interest myself in anything but C#.
And I should explain why I want to take this offline.
1. I have a difficult time following threads here to get to the content.
Even when threads don't devolve into far off-topic rants. Its hard for an
old man like me to keep track of who said what when y'all cut and paste
snippets.
2. I can keep the focus narrowly on this single subject. Perhaps move to a
moderated blog or wiki
3. The topic of money may come up.
4. The topic of "The End of COBOL" compilers/companies may come up
