I never had a problem with ADD, but I do remember some kind of similar
problem I had with SUBTRACT which was solved by COMPUTEing instead.
As was mentioned... the problem I was diddling with put out a DISPLAY that
went to a SYSOUT dataset which was later read by a different program which
relied on the numbers being in that whacky format... so fixing one thing
would cause something downstream to break. I've sung that song often
enough that I can do harmony on it... no need to start vocalising now.
As for COMPUTE versus ADD/SUBTRACT/etc... I've looked through a few ASM
lists and haven't been able to see a difference in generated code for the
statements. If there's an example you think might bear further research
I'd be glad to give it the proverbial whack.
