FTP lock up

Hi all

I'm writing program that will work like a live update for one of my apps
Its uses NMFTP to log into a server, read directories and check
if I need to download new files.

It will work 80% of the time but the other 20% will just lock up
after is has logged in and changed to the right directory
the only way out of it is CTRL+ALT+DEL.(or Run > program reset
if running from Delphi)

Has anybody come across this before or can give me any pointers
why it should lock up this way?
