I dare you to pull the plug out of your own pc !
Possible consequences:
Damaged harddisks: damaged sectors because of inproper head landing, data
corruption and data loss because of write buffer not written, etc.
Damaged circuitry: power surges.

You might have a valid point here.
I can imagine power button spring wear/tear from on/on/on ;)
Circuitry wear I dont really know about.
I have seen things die on power on/off/on/off.
So sudden power surges could indeed be bad for circuitry.

I find it an interesting problem.
I am kinda surprised that windows does have a stand by mode but not a
shutdown mode... ????!!!!
I tried this trick unfortunately the task schedular is not working for me
it's running but it doesnt work I posted this problem already at windows xp
general newsgroup.
The shutdown trick unfortunately only works for servers etc, my pc is not
running any server service so the trick fails ;)
