Monitor Diskactivity

Hi

How can i monitor the overall diskactivity? Something like asking the OS
somehow, how many bytes have been read/written since the last time.

I know that Windows taskmanager (winxp) shows 'I/O Read Bytes' and 'I/O
Write Bytes', look under processes, then enable the comuns in the view
menu.. So.. how can i read these values in my D7 app?
