TImagelist problems

I plan to show 850 bitmaps (125x125) using imagelist and Listview.
In default setup it only shows 665 pictures. When I in object inspector set
AllocBy to 850 all 850 picture show up.
If I code Imagelist1.AllocBy := 850 I am back to 665 pictures.
Is it possible runtime to set AllocBy?
All suggestions to solve my problem are welcome!
