Re: Delphi v5.0 vs 2007

I'm not wanting to ive on the bleeding edge... I just want to make sure we
aren't be left behind and will one day find that the gap has grown so large
that it is very difficult or virtual impossible to make the switch to
something current.

Didn't know if there was something compelling in the newer development
enviroment that should be considered... so I asked.

Wow, people here get angry of a simple question. Just want to make sure we
are getting good advice from our developer and that the Delphi concurs.

I very happy with XP (not Vista). Server 2003 is working fine. Adobe Acobat
6 does everything we need... don't need 8 or soon 9. So please don't paint
me with that same brush. Your bitter with your boss so don't take it out on
me.

We currently have a developer that we are very happy with. He has been
using Delphi v5.0 for almost 10 years now and feels there is no reason to
upgrade to any of the newer versions. I'm not a developer and I don't
know what to say but I just have this feeling that there must be new
features, supported technology, 3rd party libraries, user interface
improvements, etc. that we are missing out on.

Also, we are considering hiring someone to assist with some additional
programming tasks and am conserned that we are going to have less success
if we need someone to use Delphi v5.0.

Can anyone tell me if we are ok with version 5.0? What are we missing
out on?

Thanks!

Bill

Sounds like my boss. Always with the bleeding edge requirements. Never
happy with a standard. Always wanting to change to something newer, more
complicated (actually, just something he read in a tech magazine
somewhere). Simple works longer. Period.

You have a developer that you are very happy with, however you do not
trust his advice. He has at least 10 years of experience, but never mind,
a non-developer knows better. My boss does the same thing to me and there
is NOTHING that will make me leave like someone discounting my seasoned
advice.
