speed isssues with ADO and access 2000 database

My programmer developed my software using boreland builder 6 with ado querie components. I find queries that are performed on my microsoft access 2000 database takes a very long time to come up with results Iam looking for. Is there a way to speed up queries when using ADO with access 2000
