sounds very strange. did you try to install those files? or "deinstall"
them, whatever XP allows you to do

i see 2 possibilities. Either the Component Checker is failing, or
worse, there's something in XP failing

i hate to say it, but at this point i would reinstall the whole system
from scratch :(
