FileMaker database files very slow

I got a FileMaker Developer 5.5 files.

I use ODBC to connect to these files.
However, the query is very slow and seems not working for large files.

TADOQuery :
SELECT * FROM Employee

It has about 3000 records and 50 fields.
It took 5 minutes but not yet opened the query.
