Why loosing grid.datasource value

Using Delphi 6 all patches.
I have a single main form.
I connect using ADO to SQL server 2000.
If I change my connection and I loose all my components datasources links,
they switch to nil.
I only point to a differnt DB all the rest of the connection is the same.
Why does it not just keep the link?
