Are you sure you are running the full MDAC 2.8 install and not just the 2.8 SP1?

I got error on my XP:

"Installation information data unavailable"
when run the Plugin and MDAC executable.

May be I need to uninstall VS 2005 and then reinstalled MDAC 2.7.
Try installing MDAC 2.8
