I have writen a program in D7 that uses an access db accross a network which
seems to work fine with multi users untill it is opened n win98 machine it
locks the file so no one else can open it.

Dave,
I'd check that you have the same version of MDAC on each machine (chances are the Win98 one is using an old version). You can get the latest downloads from Microsoft.
