How does MSDE or SQL Server Express or whatever it is called now compare
to other Delphi databases? I can't seem to find any statistics or
comments on it.

You're not allowed to post any performance tests about SQL Server or
Oracle or most other big databases ...

How about these direct questions posted to the group about MSDE:

Is it fast enough?

SQL Server Express is very fast.

Does it crash with damaged files?

Depending on the level of corruption, it either recognizes it and reports
errors, crashes or simply refuses to start at all.

If so, are they repairable?

There are thirdparty tools, the only one i ever used was OnTrack SQL Server
Recovery, which did the job in the case we needed it (due to non existing
backups).

Would you use it?

I would only use it if the product is designed for the full blown SQL server
and the SQLExpress solution is only a downsized version. If your application
is a shrinkwrap product or a doesn't need the might of a full blown SQL
Server, there are better solutions for Delphi available, that are not only
easier to maintain but in all likelyhood also perform better if used in the
way they are developed fo

Is there an example using it with Delphi I can try to judge details myself,
possibly using the Northwind DB?

The access method from Delphi is ADO, as such there are surely demos out
there. I've never looked for them though.
