Application Locks opening a table

I've a very strange problem with a cgi application running under
Windows 2003 server.
I've a logon application that opens a form with a frameset containing
two frames.
the contents of such frames are provided by two different cgi
applications.
As theese applications are started, each utilize the same dlls to work
on several databases on an sql server 2005 located on the same
machine.
very frequently, one of theese applications locks opening a table .
(starting an ado sql that retrieves all the (few) rows from a table).

By putting some log in the application, I see a message immediately
before the query.open statement, and not the message after the query
execution. the programs waits forever until IIS kills the application.

The programs work correctly under windows 2000 !

Aany suggestions ?
Regards
Maurizio
