Thanks for the response, but I forgot to mention I have no control over the S/Server end other than simply accessing it, so I can't try your suggestions, but thanks for taking the time to look.

Take a look on sp_addlinkedserver of MSSQL Server. This will help you create the linked server based on settings the user will provide.
Accessing the server with sufficient rights is all that is needed in most cases.

As always just a thought, never used Oracle.
