? I'd say that if anyone should be forbidden to write to these positions
it's the application. A MM could well set up sentinel values here to
check for overruns etc.

Does this vote contradict my vote on the other question? I just answered
each of them with my primary reaction, I haven't thought too much on the
consequenses those two have on each other...
