If the rules are too restrictive, then we will lose contestants.

Developing a MM takes a significant amount of effort, and I doubt anyone
would want to write one "just for fun". I don't make my MMs specifically for
Fastcode - I make them because I need a good replacement MM for my own
applications. If the Fastcode rules and my need for the best MM for my
applications clash, then you can guess which one gets priority...
