Re: Fastcode Status

Dennis,

I am not part of the FastCode community, only a lurker.

Many developers have a different definition of quality: "good enough" - you
can live with some bugs, loose requirements etc. That's ok for most software
for end users, but you get into trouble if you use that definition for core
functions.

As I wrote, I don't contribute to the FastCode project (except some
postings, which don't add real value). Maybe it's a good idea to
concentrate. Eg.

- closing some older challenges. Sometimes, even a FastCode function is good
enough = fast enough.

- use only one version of Delphi (means: D2005) for benchmark and
validation.

- every version of a FastCode function can get a note like "This code has
been successfully validated with Borland Delphi 2005. The code can be
compiled with Delphi 5, 6 and 7, but it is not validated by the FastCode
project for these versions. Please read the following passage (or: contact
the author) for more details regarding these Delphi versions".

I am using D5 and don't own 2005, but I want a healthy, stress-free FastCode
team that can concentrate on what's fun, not on managing hundreds of
questions and Delphi versions and CPUs etc. etc. If FastMM is working with
Delphi 5, great, but there should be a note that this flavour is not part of
FastCode. It's nice to have some democracy, but if the result leads to a
situation that makes it impossible to contribute to FastCode as a hobby,
then something is wrong.

So, it could be useful to cut away everything that's not neccessarily needed
right now.

Ralf
