Apologies, I stand corrected. Don't know where I read that... According to a few Google searches it seems MMX was added in the K6 and 3DNow in the K6-2.
Yep, K6-2.
So it seems the latest processor from AMD that doesn't support MMX is the K5. According to cpu-museum.de it was released in 1997 and topped out at 133MHz.
K5 was my first AMD CPUs, it overclocked to 150 MHz easily ;)
In the light of this I would agree that it is time to assume MMX support.
Yes, MMX testing could be reduced to just raising an exception if unsupported, though I don't think we would ever hear from that exception except from people playing with old CPU emulators :p
