After a long time trying for start a company and develop the kind the
app with the kind a quality-devoted (i feel sooo exxtreme because i use
DUnit) and mentality and tools that i chosee, i start my first real-big
development this month :) and i'm happy with this...
However the actual news are destroying my original plans, i want:
- Never again be depend in technologies that depen in others so deeply
that cause failure, that its, follow the idea "self contained apps". I
work from 1996 in several projecst and see a lot of times how be soo
dependant in this things cause failure, high cost& consumer acctitud "i
hate you, guys" -no kidding-.
I see how be tied to Activex, COM,DCOM + Win98 (in that time, we don't
know how bad are this combination, no, we don't can force our user to
move to win2000) and be dependent in only a sql engine (we stop 3 months
on sales because the *installer* of Sql Server refuse to install in any
machine configured with "spanish-colombia", by the way the 95% of all ).
I see how be soo dependant in MS "vision" (no tech, i don't hate MS
tech, ok?, baa, i litle but i can live) cause failure, how believe in
that COM is the future, or ADo, or anything and later break all. Also, i
see about the future OS&.NET API&Office 2003 and i can see only a thing:
MS is put strong effort in put customer in a no-return point because
linux:more tied to MS, less posibility to see other options. By fortune,
in my country exist a hard viability to put linux in the *desktop*, but
all companies are waiting for vertical apps - and i wanna to be here !!! -
But, i don't wanna forget Windows or MS tech, only not depend so much in
it, i wanna support MS because market and because under proper
hardware&software can be good, but have choises for not stop deployment
(under windows, too ) because *** problems, and broad adoption of my
solutions
- For this reason, in all years i work in programing with MS solutions
like Visual Studio, VFP, VS.NET (2 years), Interdev and others, i see
that Delphi can support this "way", and for a very small group of
developers with great ideas and low budget, C++&Java must be avoid...
- I wanna support Sql Server, Firebird and Oracle/DB2 later. Support
Linux/Windows/NET if possible...
- For realize this vision, i think in use Delphi, Kylik for main
development, RemObjects or MsgConnect for networking, Rave or FastReport
for reporting and Jedi VCL&TurboPower Open source for toolkits, or
Elpack (because CLX), Flash& Asp.net or Intraweb for web front-ends. My
first hope is that with this setup (in any combination) we can build a
strong solution with minimal dependencies and broad integration, but now
with the news about Kylik and with not security about Delphi win32
support in the near future (i.e the kind of support, i know that win32
is not dead, ok?), really, i don't know... I'm working hard in collect
the money and find investor but i need a more secure vision about near
future than "we don't know, maybe, chosee C++ X or JBuilder, why not
VS.nET, etc...."
- I know that C++ or Java is more strong in the multi-plataform arena,
but also is true that requiere more time, consume more recurses, is more
complex, is more expensive, and after all if any of this things are
false, don't like me (is the old tale: BMW is best...NOO, is Mercedez,
NOOO is BMW, your kidding??? is ...). Simply, i feel in home with the
syntax of Delphi. ALso, like me the syntax of VFP and prefer the syntax
of VB over any C-like, why?? for the same reason tha someguys like
Coca-Cola and other Pepsi....
But them i realize that nobody can help me about this and i need risk
myself in go with Borland, and play Kylik (and hope that succes) or be
secure that the native winapp run under winne (and hope that succes), or
hope than mono succes or trahs all and learn Java or...
Sorry for lost your time...really
