Agreed that is off target, but I don't think that's what is primarily
required for good marketing
> "Borland has limited resources!"
Good marketing could be acheived with a lot less than 'unlimited resources',
and even with their present level of resources. For a start they could focus
on formulating and communicating the right messages. For example, getting
feature matrixes out with correct features on a timely basis would be
helpful. They had incorrect features on their Delphi 8 matrix for over 6
weeks, such as the pro version not having VCL.NET components. They still
said (last time I looked) the pro version doesn't have the DBWebControl
components, which seems odd to me and is probably wrong as well.
Also they could for example communicate the migration path for people who
used n-tier technologies - that Delphi 7 used Datasnap, Delphi 8 drops it
and uses .NET remoting. I don't recall .NET remoting being in the feature
matrix for Delphi 8.net, and I think it should be if not.
Then they would work hard and persisitently rebranding themselves to PHB
types.
Really I think 'limited resources' is just a furphy. They could achieve a
lot with the (level of) resources they have.
I don't think they formulate and communicate their message(s) to the parties
concerned (developers, companies, pointy haired bosses, industry, press etc)
the way they could/should.
