How many people here care about Delphi 8 being a full citizen
of .Net _today_?
How many care about Delphi 9 being a full citizen of .Net?
How many people are going to continue programming in Win32
for the next 18 months?
What should the marketing message be?
I don't care if you only have $100. If you are trying to
sell something no one cares about then you could have $200,000
and you won't make much difference.
The beauty of Delphi is we can continue doing Win32 and 18 months,
2 years, 3 years, down the road, move right into the .Net world.
Is Borland going to treat me this poorly (no SP _again_) down the
road with .Net support?
Wrong marketing message and wrong support message. Really stupid
marketing!!!!!! Even with $100 budget.
Out of 800 or so members of the DC users group (which I am the
president) and about 100 of them attend meetings on a regular
basis, 3 are really in to .Net (3%). All of them are excited
about Delphi for .Net but all three of them are already C# experts.
So they are curious, but that doesn't mean they are going to
buy it. Look at C++ and Kylix. Did that change the fortunes
of Kylix? All they had to do with Kylix and fix the bugs for
us Pascal programmers, and it would have slowly but steadily
taken off. They also never offered a bundle deal.
Delphi 6E for $2,395 or Delphi 6e and Kylix 3 for $2,995.
Nope, they had to get the several thousands of dollars for
K3 on it own. Another great marketing plan in place!
