Yes, but if Intel produce the chips they are going to make, won't that mean
that the same version of WinXP will work on it? So MS will only be
targetting one CPU.

Porting to .Net because Bill tells you too is a slightly different issue.

Why? Where does this take Office? What can 64 bit Office do that 32 bit
can't? Handle pictures better?

Well with CPUs double in power every year and half and doubling in bits
every decade, they are just making sure that the CPU doesn't feel lonely.
