Ay, and there's the rub, "We" don't buy Delphi books. "We" don't subscribe to
the two Delphi magazines (I'm sure their circulations are not much above
10,000). "We" bitch about buying Delphi component libraries, or about upgrading
them. "We" invent excuses for "our" behavior: the book's badly written, the
book doesn't cover enough, the library vendor is an extortionist for charging
so much, I can google for the information for free, I can look it up in this
hot-seller VB/C++/Java/C# book and convert the code.
Hell, "we" don't even upgrade friggin' Delphi, for god's sake. How many people
here are still using Delphi 5 or 6?
And, speaking as an author now, I'd make more money consulting and
writing/posting the odd free algorithms article on my web site than I would in
writing a book in the same timeframe. X, Steve, and Marco are the high rollers
of the Delphi book world and I'm guessing that even they don't make a lot when
you cost it out per hour. I know I didn't. Wny? Not because their books are
crap, but because "we" don't buy them.

So, no, I don't expect to see a Borland Press any time soon <sigh>.
Cheers, Julian
