        This is a digression, but I don't believe that's true. Eiffel, for a
long time, anyway -- certainly through the mid-90s -- "compiled" to C.
You could get native code from there via a good C compiler, but I don't
consider cross-compilation to be native code compilation in the strict
sense.

        I'm not trying to slag Eiffel; I think it's a really neat environment.
Just being pedantic.
