I don't think its moot. I also don't think you'll see much switching
happening either. What this does for me (as a consultant) is give me
more options. I think many of us draw up a caricature of "The Boss" as
the pointy haired idiot who doesn't understand technology enough to
make a wise choice to go with the only tool that makes sense - Delphi.
This image is dead wrong IMHO.

Bosses buy into companies, not just their products. Certainly, the
products/technologies can and do play into the purchasing decision, but
mostly it's about the company when you're talking about investing tens
of thousands of dollars in product. Such decisions are made at the
VP/Director level. More often than Dilbert would say, these people are
smart and know what they are doing.

The obstacle that we, Delphi enthusiasts, face is just that. We can
argue the technology until we're blue in the face (and I do), but it
almost always does not matter. I'll find myself arguing why a company
should buy into Borland and not Microsoft or not some other mainstream
option. Actually by this time, the decision has probably been made and
I'm unlikely to get the job.

However, if I could use Delphi in MS's IDE and if I change my thinking
that I'm not strictly a "Delphi Developer" but a .NET Developer, I can
use your Microsoft IDE, absolutely, no doubt! Hey I might even be able
to bring in some top notch, seasoned development experts with whom I've
worked in the past. They actually have a lot of history using tools
created by Anders Heilsberg, Microsoft Genius. Some might even know him
personally.

You see, it removes the "Which Company" decision, the hardest one, and
allows the "Which language/technology" to be made by those who can make
such decisions and who will listen to us.

I may be wrong, but the work I'm involved in today would not seem to
indicate so.
