Progress is relative, from VB or C++, .Net is an upgrade as far as
GUI and RAD are concerned, from Delphi, it's a downgrade if you
don't do ASP.Net.

Then you don't want to capture them as a market, to sell an
alternative, you have to answer to their needs, not answer
to with a variation of something they didn't care for in the
first place.

Many reasons, as far as language is concerned, VB.Net
is much closer to VB than you give it credit for,
most of everyday utility function and classes are there,
while Delphi's RTL is an alien world. Pricewise, Delphi loses.
Standard-wise, Delphi is a proprietary tool, not a standard.
Performance-wise, both are limited by .Net.
Future-wise, well, D8 got broken by .Net SP1.
Job market-wise, it's not even a contest.

If you want a Win32 application you'll move to Win64, then it's
not smooth at all, and VS.Net has the only answer.
You seem to assume that .Net everyone *wants* .Net now, or maybe
next year latest, while IMHO the time frame is much, much longer,
and some may never go .Net, maybe .Next, but not .Net.
Right now, .Net should IMHO be just a low priority project,
technological investigation of a candidate, just don't trust
MS "betting" the future on .Net because they are not, they are
promoting it, yes, kinda like the VCL was promoted in its early
days, but betting the farm, company or even chinchilla, no.

Just like the fact that *you* want it doesn't mean that others want it,
and that you're ready to bet Delphi's future on .Net doesn't mean
others want to make that bet. ;)
